Frequently asked questions.

Where do I find your bread?

Tuesdays - Year round on the Growing Hope online market. The online market will have our bread available for online order and pickup Tuesdays from 3pm to 7pm. Orders are places Thursdays through Sunday (closing at noon).

Thursdays - You can find us at the Westland Farmers Market in Westland MI during the outdoor farmers market season (end of May through mid October) on Thursdays from 3pm to 7pm.

Saturdays - You can find us at the Growing Hope Depot Town Farmers Market in Ypsilanti MI during the outdoor farmers market season (May through October) on Saturdays from 9am to 1pm.

Can I freeze your bread?

Absolutely! All of our bread freezes very well. When freezing I suggest freezing the bread sliced, from there you can pull it out and put it right into the toaster (you’ll need to toast it a few more times though).

If you want to freeze the whole loaf we suggest wrapping it in plastic wrap. This keeps the wrap right up against the surface of the loaf and will reduce the chance of freezer burn. When you’re ready to eat the bread just unwrap it and place in a 325°F oven right on the rack. Our regular sized loaves will take around 25 minutes to fully thaw, the larger loaves like Country and Milk bread may take a bit longer. If you want to be extra sure insert a probe thermometer into the center of the bread. If it hit room temperature the loaf is thawed out. Remove the loaf and allow it to cool fully back to room temperature before slicing.

How do you recommend I store bread?

We sell our artisan breads in paper bags, which is the ideal storage after baking while moisture is still equalizing in the loaf, this moisture distribution will actually drastically evolve the loaf for the first 24 hours or so.

The paper bag will be a great place to store bread for the first couple of days. If you find that the crust is becoming harder to slice, or crunchy rather than crispy, you can refresh it in the oven after spraying the outside with water, or store it in a plastic bag instead. In a plastic bag your crust will be more chewy than crispy. In a plastic bag with the acidity of the sourdough the bread should be good for around a week. Your mileage may vary though depending on the time of year, and your home temperature and humidity.

Some of our softer breads, like milk bread, are sold and best stored in plastic bags.

If you’re going to be eating the bread more slowly over time we very much recommend freezing the bread sliced.

Do you sell your loaves sliced?

We don’t sell our loaves pre-sliced and suggest you don’t slice the loaf all at once either. Exposing more of the interior of the loaf will greatly increase the staling rate, and increase risk of mold developing earlier (more surface area unprotected by crust).

When will my favorite special bake be back?

We post out special bakes at various markets on the calendar, usually a few weeks out, sometimes a bit longer. Since we currently do one special bake a week it might be a while (and we’re always trying out new things). Stop by the market and let us know what your favorite is though! We love to hear what everyone is enjoying and community favorites come back more often.
